How does executive coaching work?
Executive coaching is a highly effective approach to leadership excellence; it is relatively brief in duration and provides an alternative to psychotherapy. My approach to increasing an individual’s leadership effectiveness is based on my work as a sport psychology consultant with the Canadian Olympic teams and my training as a psychologist.
What do you do as a consultant?
I offer individual consultations to address counterproductive work behaviour, such as workplace conflict, harassment, job dissatisfaction, poor performance, theft, absenteeism, lateness, drug or alcohol abuse, family problems, financial problems, etc. The purpose of group facilitations is to help participants resolve disagreements, improve communication in decision-making discussions, build consensus, or assess the effectiveness of decision-making processes. I also consult with managers to help them answer questions such as “How do I get an employee to work harder? How do I deal with an employee who can’t or won’t follow directions? How can I create a trusting climate on the team? How can I best respond to an angry employee?”
What kind of training do you have?
I completed my Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary, my master’s degree at the University of Western Ontario, and my Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto and have been in private practice for 10 years.
I am a licensed psychologist and adhere to a code of professional ethics for psychologists. I am registered with and regulated by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology (CRHSPP).
